Banda Aceh

Attention: Unmarried couples are not allowed to stay in the same room in most hotels here. Please enquire in advance or, if in doubt, book two rooms.

Hermes Palace Hotel: This upscale hotel not only offers a pool, but also child-friendly facilities such as a playground. It is a good starting point for exploring the city and its history. Seventeen Hotel: A good mid-range hotel with family rooms with three beds. An extra bed is available.

Berastagi

Bukit Lawang

Indra Valley Inn: This cosy accommodation offers spacious family rooms with 3 beds and a warm atmosphere. The garden and proximity to the river make it an ideal place for children. Extra beds are available on request.

Sam’s Bungalow: With an excellent location and child-friendly facilities, Sam’s Bungalow offers a pleasant stay for families. The two spacious panorama rooms have 4 beds, but two of them are located on a gallery. This is therefore probably only suitable for older children. However, extra beds are available on request.

Ida Guesthouse: This simple but charming guesthouse offers family-friendly rooms with two double beds and a relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant serves western and Indian dishes at a reasonable price.

Jungle Inn: Perfect for families looking for an adventure, this accommodation combines comfortable rooms with great views and proximity to the rainforest. Some family rooms are maisonette style with two rooms on top of each other.

Green Hill Guesthouse: With spacious rooms and a child-friendly atmosphere, this guesthouse offers a good mix of comfort and nature. Parents can enjoy the view while the kids play by the river. There is the Treetop Bungalow with 4 beds and the Treetop Chalet, which can accommodate up to 4 people.

Family-friendly accommodation in Sumatra: Padi Ecolodge

Bukittinggi

Canyon Jungle Stay: Located just outside Bukittinggi, this hotel offers a peaceful atmosphere in a beautiful landscape. The deluxe bungalow with garden view has two bedrooms with double beds. The garden is a wonderful place to relax.

Padi Ecolodge: Our absolute favourite in Bukittingi. The complex consists of traditional Minangkabau houses set in a beautiful garden. Embedded in a canyon with rice fields. Pure idyll. The family room has three beds and a balcony.

Medan

Aryaduta Medan: This luxury hotel has a large pool and offers child-friendly services such as babysitting. Perfect for arriving and relaxing after a long journey. The Arya Club Studio has a double bed and a sofa bed.

Kama Hotel: The centrally located hotel offers good value for money and is situated in one of the few streets with a pavement in bustling Medan. The deluxe family room is spacious and offers two double beds. Extra beds can be provided on request.

Hotel Deli River: Very nice hotel complex with pool just outside the city centre. Ideal for arriving for 1-2 nights after a long flight and relaxing by the pool. You can enjoy a meal in the hotel restaurant. The family room has a double bed and two single beds. Baby cot or extra bed available on request.

d’primahotel Kuala Namu: If you have an early flight from Medan or are travelling late, we recommend an overnight stay at this airport hotel. The superior family room offers four single beds. Baby cots or extra beds are available on request. The hotel also has a restaurant and a pool.

Mentawai Islands – Sipora

Crow’s Nest: Beautiful small homestay directly on the beach and close to the village centre of Tuapejat on Sipora. It has family rooms with three and five beds.

Nasara Resort: This resort is located on the offshore island of Pulau Pototoga and offers a luxurious stay. There is an executive suite as well as a flat with multiple beds. In addition to the pool, there is also direct access to the sea.

The surf resorts Awera, Villa Mentawai and Mentawai Islands Resort also offer various family rooms. However, the prices are higher.
